Pandoro is a deliciously soft cake made from flour, butter and eggs, with a dusting of icing sugar. The cake is baked in an eight-pointed star-shaped pan that gives it its signature form. Today’s pandoro was inspired by ‘nadalin’, a simple dessert that was traditionally made at Christmas in Verona, Italy. Elevated from a regional specialty to a national sweet treat, nowadays pandoro is one of Italy’s most-loved Christmas cakes. Although most people love it plain, there is also a strong tradition of serving pandoro slices with tasty creams (a classic is mascarpone cream).
